The course provided a good introduction to the scientific data
associated with shock and vibration testing & analysis - of frequencies,
resonance, physics. The course provided a detailed history, evolution
of testing procedures, measurement techniques and hardware associated
with vibration testing and a broad view of the various fields of
application for shock & vibration analysis. A detailed description
of the different types of isolators, damping techniques and fixtures
was provided in the course. Common mistakes when doing test and
analysis were provided. Sources of shock and vibration related hardware
(accelerometers, shakers, and fixtures) and reading material (magazines
and books) were provided. This course was a good introduction to
the fundamentals of shock and vibration. Thanks, Wayne!

This was a very good seminar. It introduced
me to the vibration and shock arena. I only wish that I had attended
this seminar years ago, so I could have identified some failure
modes much earlier.

I
was looking for an overview of vibration testing and, with this
course, that is exactly what I got; a very good overview of not
only the theory, but of equipment and practical applications."

Dear Mr. Tustin,
I do not know how your SAE Automotive
Vibration & BSR Testing course could be any better. Your animations
are a unique feature in NVH seminars, aren't they? All of your course
materials show that you have put extraordinary care and effort into
preparing them. You are so alert, relaxed, and approachable as a
lecturer that class participants were able to interact with you
many times to learn more about their individual practical concerns,
which is what NVH seminar attendees always yearn for, as you know
so well!

"The subject class was one of the
best I have been to in DCMA. It was taught by a very knowledgeable
person using very good teaching skills. The class was very interesting,
because of both the material as well as the ability of the instructor
to make it so. I highly recommend that DCMA continue to provide
this class to all interested personnel. Especially QAR's who could
benefit from the instruction on a weekly basis.

Hello Wayne,
I just wanted to drop you a little note
to say thank you for the course last week. I found the course most
enjoyable and although I still have a lot to learn, I now have started
questioning the way that we do things here and won't just take things
for granted as I did before. So thanks again... and keep up the
good work,

Training is intended to provide individuals
with knowledge, skills and attitude needed to perform (or more effectively
perform) a specific job. Not education that's intended to make people
well-rounded.
Formal training is needed when one or more
people in an organization needs new skills or knowledge and no colleague
has the time or the skills to teach him.
ERI offers open courses, onsite courses, distance learning and virtual training. |
| |
 |
|
If you don't have enough people at your facility
to justify an "onsite" ERI course, then here is an alternative:
send one or two or three of your people to attend one of ERI's "open"
courses. Several meet each year. You will learn not only from the
ERI instructor but also from classmates from other organizations.
If our listing does not show the subjects, dates and locations you
prefer, feel free to write, phone, FAX
or send an e-mail.

One of the ways in which ERI can
assist your organization to achieve high reliability and durability
is through customized group technical training of your design, reliability,
quality and test engineers at your facility. Training is tailored
to meet your organization's long-term needs. The main goal is to
avoid future reliability and durability problems in your electronic
and other equipment. Some topics we can include:
- Vibration and shock fundamentals, instrumentation,
analysis and testing
- Displacement, velocity, acceleration, jerk
and force measurement
- Shaker operation and maintenance training
- Vibration and shock test fixture design,
fabrication and evaluation
- Modal analysis and testing
- Seismic evaluation and test
- ESS or environmental stress screening
- HALT or highly advanced life testing
- Machinery health monitoring
- Condition-based maintenance
- Packaging test and product improvement
- Climatic environments: fundamentals, instrumentation
and testing
- Temperature, altitude and humidity
- Sand-and-dust, salt spray and sunshine
- Automotive BSR (buzz, squeak and rattle)
control and test
- RFI/EMI/EMC radio frequency interference,
electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility
- Strain Gage training
- Acoustic measurements and evaluation
- Cooling of Electronics
Let's discuss the possibility that your organization
might benefit from training in some of these subject areas. Please
telephone, FAX or send a non-obligation
e-mail to the Equipment
Reliability Institute, attention Wayne Tustin, requesting a
course outline.

| "Virtual Classroom" training or "Web-based" training is offered in some of the subjects listed above, 1 or 2 hours/day (rather than full days), by an ERI instructor. Virtual training can be delivered one-to-one or to multiple people.
May we discuss your training needs via telephone (805) 564-1260 or e-mail?

ERI's updated 1001 Distance Learning Program in vibration and shock testing, measurement, analysis and calibration, also HALT, ESS and
HASS, is provided as a CD-ROM, with thousands of Power
Point slides in 33 lessons. Each lesson is followed by review questions
and problems; these go back-and-forth via e-mail. Wayne Tustin is
your "remote professor". Click

Reliability ain't free
Would you rather invest
a little up front? Or pay a great deal later?
Invest a little extra
now, to give your designers and test people the tools to do it right?
Or pay dearly, later on, in delays, in performance penalties, in
excessive warranty and other expenses?
We are talking about
the creation of reliable products.
Our products (home, office,
factory, telecom, satellite, military, other) are increasingly complex.
As a society, we are increasingly vulnerable when those products
do not work reliably. A computer failure forces airport closures.
Another closes grocery checkout lines. Another idles or mislocates
an expensive satellite. Another stops my car in traffic.
Reliability requires
a small training investment upfront. Your designers and your
test people know what training they need. Approve their training
requests. Invest in them.
